Man Loses Over 4 Lakh From His Account After Attempting To Win iPhone 14 Pro Max

The opportunity to win a free iPhone 14 Pro Max is highly coveted, but unfortunately, it is a rare occurrence. Despite the prevalence of online scams promising iPhone giveaways, many individuals still fall victim to these fraudulent schemes.

And recently, a 23-year-old man was the latest victim of this scam where he didn’t win a free iPhone 14 Pro Max but instead lost more than Rs 4,000 from his bank account. All this scam was done through WhatsApp where the victim received a message saying that he had won a lucky draw organized by an electronics store.

Losing Over Rs 4000 on WhatsApp Message: All Details

The scammer then sent a message in which the victim had won a package containing an iPhone 14 Pro Max model. Due to the scam, the victim contacted the given WhatsApp number. Now what followed was a nightmare he never saw coming.

The scammer claimed that in order to get the iPhone, the victim had to pay taxes, which appear to have been part of the prize money. And when the victim decided to pay the amount, he had to pay a total of 4.26 lakh in 34 different transactions. The fact that he was willing to pay the tax means that the victim would have given them confidential information about his bank that can be used to withdraw the money.

The victim finally realizes that he was cheated out of this money and he will not get an iPhone from the lucky draw. In the end, he decides to contact the police, where an official complaint has been filed. He even shared the scammer’s number and bank details where he transferred the money.

It is very unlikely that the victim will get their money back because the information provided is not available for now. WhatsApp scams have become a serious problem, but in most cases such incidents are avoidable as long as a person is aware and smart when interacting with such messages. Never reply to messages from unknown senders and never share personal information with such contacts. We recommend blocking these numbers and reporting them immediately.
